An Operating System is the low-level software that manages a computer system. It handles the way the hardware behaves, the communication with peripheral devices for instance a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between all the applications, plus the prioritization of applications in case multiple ones run at once. Any program that's installed on a laptop or a desktop functions by sending requests to the OS for various services using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS is possible via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the OS is what controls a server together with all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. In case there're virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server solutions - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're free so they won't increase the price of your new hosting server, but also because they are exceptionally stable and secure. Each one of them is supported by a vast community of web developers, so you will be able to choose from many hundreds of software packages that you may install on your server in case the app that you want to work with has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what internet hosting Control Panel you can use as the Control Panels that we offer run on specific OSs only and because we want to provide you with as much freedom as possible, we offer a couple of OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a given OS, we will change it upon request if it turns out that you will need another one. We can also keep your OS updated weekly as part of our additional Managed Services upgrade.
